And in the beginning there was Steph...who clearly is not Martha

Let's be clear, my name is Steph...not Martha.

I am not a DIY chick.  In fact, I'm more of a "call the maid service" chick.  I don't have seasonal decor.  My mantle, seven years after moving in, remains primarily undecorated.  I don't have a cleaning schedule, a Silouette machine, nor had I ever heard of chalkboard paint before I started reading all these DIY blogs in the lovely land of Internet.  And the idea of me putting up any type of trim/beadboard/waincoating and referring to it as an "super easy weekend project" is absolutely, positively, RIDONCULOUS.

Clearly I am meant to have my own homemaking blog.

Because there is no way that I am the minority.  Not every stay at home mom has a menu planner that she updates with magnetic menu cards on her refrigerator.  Not every stay at home mom is running around hot or spray glueing ottomans, lamp shades, picture frames, and possibly even the dog bowl.  Not every stay at home mom has home tour photos on the web showing immaculately clean rooms that match their immaculately dressed children.

I think most women are like me.  Trying to keep the house relatively straight while making sure their children have clean underwear, food for lunches (or at least lunch money), while ensuring that the credit card bills are paid on time.  And by on time I mean online at 10 pm on their due date.

I give these DIY bloggers a lot of credit.  But I will never be one of them.  I do, however, aspire to be more like them in certain ways.  I'd like to have a relatively well decorated home.  I'd like to expand my cooking repetoire beyond spaghetti, burgers, and chicken breast cooked in the sauce of the day.  I'd like to be better organized.  Lose some weight.  Maybe even decorate that mantle.

And so I am challenging myself to do so.  Without going crazy overboard.  Because, after all, my name is Steph.  Not Martha.
